Our Coaching

The WC Gazelles coaching staff are lifelong running enthusiasts. With attention, knowledge, and skill specifically in youth training, our coaches strive to prepare our athletes for high school, college, and beyond. Our staff, having experienced successes in running as athletes and as coaches, transfers their enthusiasm and discipline to our youth for success on & and off the field.

Our founder and former director, Carlton Austin, set the pace as a USATF Level I Certified Coach developing our running programs and guiding many students to Division I track & field scholarship opportunities.

 
Our Coaches:

Zelda Bolden
West Coast Gazelle Track & Field Coach

This will be Coach Bolden’s third season as Head Coach. Zelda is a Certified Level 1 Coach with USA Track & Field. During the previous two seasons, Coach Zelda was Assistant Coach for CA Rising Stars Track Club, while with the Rising Stars she coached the Bantam girls in 2006 and the Midget girls in 2007. Prior to 2006, Zelda was Assistant Coach from 2003-2005 season with the Inland Empire Sprinters Track Club.


Victor Bolden
West Coast Gazelle Track & Field Coach

This will be Coach Bolden’s third season as Head Coach. Victor is a Certified Level 1 Coach with USA Track & Field. During the previous two seasons, Coach Victor was Assistant Coach for CA Rising Stars Track Club, while with the Rising Stars he coached the Midget boys in 2006and 2007. Prior to 2006, Victor was Assistant Coach from 2003-2005 season with the Inland Empire Sprinters Track Club.


JimJim Ratigan
West Coast Gazelles Cross Country Coach

This will be Coach Ratigan´s sixth season as cross-country head coach. During the previous two seasons, Coach Ratigan has sent 28 runners to the National Championships, with two runners finishing in the top seven nationally! Last fall in Spokane, Washington the Gazelles youth boys´ team (13-14 years olds) Captured 4th place, while the midget boys (11-12) and intermediate boys (15-16) both captured 10th. Coach Ratigan has been involved in long distance running for the last twenty five years as both athlete and coach. He is a USA Track and Field Level One Certified Coach as well as the cross-country and track and field coach for Ruth Middle School in Rancho Cucamonga where he teaches P.E., math and science. Coach Ratigan believes in instilling a lifelong love for running as well as challenging oneself to be the best they can at whatever they do.


Damon McVea Sr
West Coast Gazelle Track & Field Coach

This will be coach Damon’s Fifth season as coach. Damon grew up in Los Angeles and started running track at the age of twelve with the Rancho Cienega Track Club under the direction of his dad Bob McVea. Coach Damon progressed in track at Crenshaw High School, coached by David Frierson from (1980-1982). Damon still holds the school record in the 100 meter and 200 meter. He attended San Jose State on a scholarship, where he was coached by Bobby Poynter. Coach Damon is a family man with four children and chasing God’s heart.


Jailyn Ellington
West Coast Gazelle Track & Field Coach

This will be coach Jailyn's (affectionaly called Coach J.J.) third season as head coach of the Sub-Bantam Girls & Boys. She was the assist coach in 2008 season. Jailyn is a formor track runner for The West Coast Gazelles 2006 and 2007 season. She will be a senior in High School this upcoming school year and plans to attend college after graduating. She enjoys coaching the Sub-Bantams and is looking forward to a successful and fun track season.





Shante Flournoy
West Coast Gazelle Track & Field Administrator

This will be Shante’s third season as Staff Administrator. Started as a youth athlete for the Southern California Cheetahs under the direction of Poppa Cheetah at the age of 9. While attending Pomona High School, she was the Baseline League 100 meter champion 1982, 84, 85. Professional coached by the great Dr. Ernie Gregioire during high school and college, she was taught the fundamentals of track and the positive attitude of “IF IT IS TO BE IT”S UP TO ME” that she instills into her own children and children she works with. A UC-Riverside graduate with a major in Administrative Studies. Shante stayed in the track circuit by volunteering for the Mt. SAC Relays coordinating the Volunteers and Awards stand since 1988. Her previous experience in track administration was as an Assistant Administrator for the Southern California Cheetahs in 1999 and the Team Administrator for the Inland Empire Sprinters from 2004-2007. She was also the Volunteer Coordinator for the 2007 USA Track and Field Junior Olympics held at Mt. San Antonio Community College. She currently is the Executive Board President for the Inland Valley Volunteer Center and sits on a number of Advisory Boards throughout the Inland Empire. She is the School Administrator of Little Citizens Childcare Center in Pomona. She has a passion for children and her community and feels that track gave her an outlet to see the world and to meet different cultures and people, every child deserves that chance.
